(Massillon): The Stark Regional Transit Authority, (SARTA) announced this week that they will break ground this Summer on a new multi-million dollar transit center on Tommy Henrick Blvd.
SARTA C.E.O. Kirt Conrad talked with MassillonLIVE earlier today saying that the decision to build a new site was made because SARTA has outgrown the current facility located underneath the Hampton Inn. In addition, Conrad said there were logistic and safety issues that played a role in their decision. The new site, will be located at 272 Tommy Henrick Blvd. and will cost between $3.5 to over 4 million dollars. Financing for the project will come from the Federal Transit Administration.
Current SARTA site to close December 31st of this year!
Conrad added that due to litigation and contractual issues, SARTA’s lease at the current location will conclude this month. He said that SARTA will set up a temporary passenger site near the new construction site located on Tommy Henrick Blvd. The new transit center is projected to be completed by the end of 2022.
