(Massillon): During Mondays regular work session, Ward 1 Councilmen Mark Lombardi introduced discussions on the possibility of raising the salaries of Mayor and Auditor. Many council members wanted to make it perfectly clear that the salary discussion is about the positions and not who currently holds office. Lombardi presented initial information comparing the annual salaries of Mayors in cities of similar size. He floated an annual salary rate of 90 thousand dollars for the mayor’s position in Massillon and a bit less for the Auditors position. We believe the current Mayors seat has a salary somewhere in the mid 70’s. Council plans to take more time to research the issue before possibly introducing legislation. Councilmembers were adamant that such legislation would have nothing to do with who holds these offices or their party affiliation.
